A Morris County man went to an unspecified hospital by private vehicle after a crash between Emporia and Allen on Friday morning.
Lyon County deputies say the crash happened in the 2800 block of Road L, about 10 miles north of Emporia’s northern city limits, just before 7 am. Deputy Robert Miller says 34-year-old Carroll Calmes was northbound when a deer crossed the road. Calmes says he tried to avoid the deer but left the road, went over a creek and hit a bridge.
Calmes was treated at the scene for apparently non-life-threatening injuries and was released to seek his own medical treatment.
Authorities say it’s best to hit deer crossing a highway, instead of trying to avoid them, because of the risks associated with losing control of vehicles.
