Two large grass fires have developed northwest of Bushong this week.
The latest developed late Wednesday, with a controlled burn going out of control near Roads 380 and C and burning an estimated 1,200 acres of grass. Allen-Admire Fire Chief Tharon Mott says there were no structures burned and no injuries associated with this fire.
Besides Allen-Admire, Americus, Reading, Morris County and Wabaunsee County firefighters helped to put out Wednesday’s fire.
This follows an even bigger fire from Monday, when an estimated 1,500 acres of grass burned — starting again near Roads 380 and C. Mott says this was also a controlled burn that got out of control. Again, that fire was limited to pasture ground with no injuries reported. Americus, Council Grove and Dunlap firefighters helped to get that fire under control.
Mot says the fires developed near each other but did not have a connecting cause.
