The Emporia State softball team swept a doubleheader from Nebraska Kearney Friday.
The Lady Hornets won the first game 7-2. Emporia State scored all 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning after Kearney scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning.
Emporia State scored 2 runs on bases-loaded walks. They also scored a run with a hit batter with the bases loaded. Josie Williams drove in 2 runs with a single and scored on an Alexis Dial triple.
Gracie Rabe was the winning pitcher giving up 2 runs on 5 hits in 5 innings. Josie Harrison pitched a scoreless 2 innings of relief.
Emporia State won the second game 2-1. Kearney scored a run in the 1st inning and left the bases loaded. The Lady Hornets tied the game in the 3rd inning. Roni Rains scored on a groundout by Emma Furnish. Emporia State broke the tie by scoring a run on a throwing error.
Josie Harrison was the winning pitcher in relief. She entered the game with the bases loaded and no one out in the 1st inning. Josie gave up no runs on 4 hits and 8 strikeouts.
The Lady Hornets improve to 23-15 and 5-7 in MIAA play.
Emporia State hosts Fort Hays State Saturday afternoon. Coach April Rosales says they will need to bring their A-game.
Emporia State will honor 3 seniors, Roni Rains, Sydney Righi, and Hannah Norquest before the first game. The first pitch is set for 1 pm at the Trusler Sports Complex. Both games will be broadcast on MIX 104.9.
