Emporia Police officers continue their investigation into a reported structure fire near downtown Emporia.
Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas has confirmed officers and Emporia firefighters were dispatched to 825 Congress at 4 am. After about 15 minutes of investigating, Emporia Fire noted light smoke in the apartment home’s second floor and ventilated that space. Meanwhile, Mattas says officers have been involved after reports of a Molotov cocktail or other incendiary device being thrown from ground level into the second-story apartment.
Mattas says nobody was hurt in the incident. Little to no damage has been reported.

The report to the 800 block of Congress was publicized at 4 am. Emporia Fire found light smoke in the apartment home’s second floor and ventilated that space.
Emporia Police are investigating after reports of at least one item thrown into the second-floor space. Details have not been confirmed.
