Formal charges are now officially pending after a structure fire report from early Monday.
Following the incident reported at 825 Congress around 4 am, Emporia Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says a joint investigation between officers and Emporia firefighters determined a homemade incendiary device had indeed gone through a window, causing a small fire.
Several people, including children, were in the apartment house at the time of the incident. Nobody was hurt.
As the investigation unfolded, officers arrested 32-year-old Donovan Williams of Emporia and allegedly found a second homemade incendiary device.
Williams has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated arson and criminal use of an explosive. Hayes anticipates officers will request additional charges of attempted murder. Any decision on charges will be made by the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.
Lyon County deputies and dispatchers helped as the investigation unfolded.
