The Lyon County Emergency Communications Center has become a prominent fixture in local law enforcement in recent years. However; the road to reach its current existence was not one without several speed bumps.
Originally, the center existed as two separate entities, one center for the city and another for the county. In the late 1990s, the center attempted a consolidation which was ultimately unsuccessful.
In 2015, the centers would attempt the same endeavor with greater success, however, LCECC Director Roxanne Van Gundy says it was a difficult process at first. However; Van Gundy feels the original challenges resulted in a stronger overall agency.
Despite the early turbulence the center would eventually find its foundation and has grown into the agency it is today. Van Gundy says having one consolidated center provides a number of benefits both to its staff and the law enforcement officers out in the field.
The biggest advantage she says is the ability to have complete Autonomy during a dispatch call.
LCECC is in the midst of celebrating National Emergency Telecommunicator Week which continues through Saturday. For more information on LCECC, its staff and its history visit LyonCounty911.org.
