Small non-farm businesses and other entities across the KVOE listening area that lost money due to the ongoing drought are now eligible for low-interest federal disaster loans.
Ninety Kansas counties are now eligible for aid for a period beginning Nov. 15.
The US Department of Agriculture says small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses involved in aquaculture and most private nonprofits can qualify for up to $2 million in Economic Injury Disaster loans to “help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred.” Eligibility is strictly based on the drought’s financial impact.
Loans are for 30 years. Interest rates vary, with businesses paying 3.305 percent and nonprofits paying 2.375 percent.
Lyon, Coffey, Greenwood and Osage counties are listed as primary counties in this announcement. Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties are neighboring counties and, as such, affected businesses in these counties are also eligible for federal help.
The application deadline is Nov. 17. Click here for a link to the Small Business Administration’s information.
