After severe weather activity Friday night and the risk of severe storms Saturday afternoon, fire danger is the main weather issue in the forecast Sunday.
Northwesterly winds will increase through the day, with afternoon gusts likely between 40-50 mph. A red flag warning is up for Morris County between 1-8 pm, with wind advisories for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 10 am to 7 pm. Regardless of the county, the fire danger will be very high at minimum Sunday.
This follows severe weather activity Friday night, including quarter-sized hail at Cottonwood Falls and the Kansas Turnpike’s Matfield Green service exit, and a severe thunderstorm warning for Lyon County on Saturday — which led to numerous reports of pea-sized hail in Emporia, Olpe and Reading, but no confirmed severe weather. Brief heavy rainfall also graced several area communities.
