Students and staff of Neosho Rapids Elementary School were called to a special assembly Monday morning.
During that time, Deena Horst of the Kansas State Board of Education presented the school with a 2022 Challenge Award. The Challenge Awards recognize schools for outstanding achievements and uncommon accomplishments based on Kansas math and reading assessment result.
Horst says student achievement is not only an accomplishment for school buildings, but the entire community as well.
Principal Lewis Whitson says he is very proud of the work of their entire building to achieve the award. In his opinion, a large piece of their building’s success has hinged on the larger focus districts are placing on social-emotional learning.
Neosho Rapids is one of just 91 schools across the state of Kansas to receive a challenge award.
