If you have medical debt — and a lot of us do — you may want to attend a special seminar on the topic Wednesday.
The event’s simply called “Got Medical Debt?” It features three presentations on medical debt and expense processing. Newman Regional Health Director of Patient Services Danica Case says medical debt can negatively affect the uninsured and the insured alike.
Case will present information about how medical billing is managed by healthcare professionals in most settings. Kansas attorney Todd Butler will discuss the importance of understanding the billing process — and the need to be proactive in arranging payments before debts go to collections entities. Housing and Credit Counseling financial counselor Ginger Ellsperman will discuss the impacts medical debt has on credit reports.
“Got Medical Debt?” goes from 6-7:30 pm Wednesday at the Newman Regional Health Conference Center. It is a free seminar, but registrations are suggested to receive handouts from the hospital and Housing and Credit Counseling, Inc. To register, call HCCI at 800-383-0217 or go online to housingandcredit.org.
