It’s time to alert you about another scam, although it’s not a new one.
Emporia Police officers say scammers are calling elderly residents, claiming to be a grandchild or other close relative before saying they have been arrested or in a wreck. Then they say they need money to resolve their respective situations.
If you get such a call, officers advise you to hang up on the caller and then reach out to your loved one to verify their identity — and their need for money — before you send anything.
