Lyon County commissioners got updates on several health-related matters during their action meeting Thursday.
Commissioners officially got welcome news on COVID-19 as low transmission numbers continue. Here’s Health Officer Dr. Ladun Oyenuga:
With COVID numbers low and with the national emergency ending May 11, Lyon County Public Health is working to get word out about tick-borne illnesses — with several confirmed cases already reported — as well as rabies after a rabid skunk was recently noted in north Lyon County and a recent rash of dog bites reported to local law enforcement.
Childcare provider numbers are also a concern with an ongoing shortage of available spaces. Environmental Services Director Keena Privat says the agency is hard at work —
Both reports from Lyon County Public Health and CareArc followed a relatively quick meeting. Commissioners approved a $54,000 invoice from Elections Systems & Software for annual service and maintenance. They also announced plans to view part of Road 170 east of Emporia before looking again at a nearly $260,000 pavement overlay quote from APAC-Kansas at a future meeting.
