If you’ll shred it, they will come and the local community certainly came out in droves to ESB Financial’s annual free shred day Saturday.
Hundreds of vehicles passed through the bank’s parking lot at Eighth and Merchant to take advantage of the free shredding opportunity. ESB Marketing Director Kandace Wakeman says it is important to know how to properly dispose of sensitive documents.
She tells KVOE News events such as this drastically help to reduce the potential of customers falling victim to identity theft and “community fraud.”
ESB President Michael Black says not only is identity theft a major concern nationally, but it is also a growing one at that.
Along with shredding any and all sensitive materials, the city of Emporia provided a cardboard truck so residents could dispose of any boxes they may have had on hand. The event was open to both individuals and businesses in and around the Emporia community.
An estimated 12,500 lbs of material were collected over the course of the event.
