Emporia city government has a new director of special projects, although the person leading that department is familiar with the city.
Tayler Wash begins her new role June 6. In general, her role involves coordinating and managing special initiatives and projects, overseeing coordinators in housing and economic development and performing grant research. Wash will also study the city’s changing needs, recommending programs and services designed to augment how city government impacts and interacts with the community. As part of that, Wash will create a Citizen’s Academy Program to educate local residents about city government and its operations.
Wash received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Emporia State University before getting a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri. Most recently, she was Wyandotte County’s organizational effectiveness coordinator.
This position is separate from the Special Projects Coordinator economic development role held for years by Jim Witt after stepping away from an assistant city manager position in 2017.
