This is an extremely busy weekend for community activities in Emporia, but the community calendar is full elsewhere as well.
Mitch Fest is coming Saturday in Cottonwood Falls, including a golf tournament, silent online auction, food trucks and live music from Brickhorse. Organizer Brody VanDegrift says funds help Mitch Budke, a Chase County High School student who lost sight in one eye, as well as three fingers and much of the thumb from his left hand due to a fireworks accident.
The golf tournament begins at 10 am at the Cottonwood Falls Country Club, with live music in downtown Cottonwood Falls from 7-10 pm.
Also, a special cornhole tournament is in Americus to benefit Alex Conley, who was badly hurt in a car crash three years ago. Organizer Shirley Vincent says Conley has a great attitude as his recovery continues.
Besides cornhole, activities will include food, an auction and a raffle. The tournament begins at 1 pm at Harry and Lloyd’s, with all other activities taking place afterward.
