The Kansas Highway Patrol’s investigation into a fatality crash near Emporia last week is ongoing.
Highway Patrol Lt. Dave Hundley says the incident began developing late April 29 near the Kansas Turnpike’s Matfield Green service exit. Troopers pursued a car to the northeast, but the chase eventually ended just southwest of the Emporia gate when the driver, Adonis Dailey, rear-ended the trailer of a semi. Dailey’s passenger, Kejuan Cortez, was killed and Dailey was airlifted to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka with suspected serious injuries. A condition update on Dailey is pending.
Hundley says the Highway Patrol’s CHART, or Critical Highway Accident Response Team, made initial findings and troopers have been adding information as late as Friday morning. The preliminary report may be released early next week.
