Residents enjoyed a night of stand-up comedy for a good cause as CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness organized Stand Up for Mental Health at the Emporia Granada Theatre on Friday.
The headlining performer was Kevin Farley, the brother of the late Chris Farley and an accomplished comedian in his own right. Kevin Farley, admits to struggling with his own mental health — so comedy is part of his overall approach to moving forward.
Also performing were Evan Christian Goldt, Erika Holliday, Jamie Campbell and KVOE’s Tagan Trahoon.
Besides providing a night of comedy for the community, the event also coincided with an online auction available to the public since April 21. Fundraising totals have not been announced. CrossWinds has been raising funds for months as part of its better than $5 million “Breaking Stigma, Breaking Ground” capital campaign. Construction is underway on the former Emporia State Chi Omega and Earl Center buildings to create a new campus-style setting for mental health services.
