The Emporia High baseball team was in a battle with Maize South Saturday afternoon at Soden’s Grove.
On three different occasions, the Spartans trailed and managed to tie the game. In an 8-all game thru five innings, Maize South scored eight consecutive runs over the final two innings for a 16-8 victory over the Spartans.
Emporia High trailed 4-0 before it got its first run in the first inning. Aiden Skilles scored on a passed ball.
The Mavericks scored on a sacrifice fly in the second. Emporia High responded with four runs in the inning highlighted by a pair of 2-run doubles by Skiles and Owen Ruge.
Maize South took a 6-5 lead thru three innings. Emporia High tied the game at 6 in the fourth with an RBI double by Ruge.
In the fifth, Maize South scored twice before Emporia High tied the game once again. Skiles tied the game at 8 with a 2-run single.
Coach Anthony Markowitz says the Spartans competed this weekend.
Emporia High is now 2-15 on the season. They’ll travel to Wichita on Wednesday to face Life Prep.
