It was hot, it was windy and it was a grind in fact this past weekend was La Grind.
The 2023 iteration of the two-day staged bike race came to an end Sunday afternoon in downtown Emporia with the annual awards ceremony. Organizer Tom Hayden says this year may have been one of the toughest to date.
As always, proceeds from La Grind will go to support the mission of Handlebars of Hope which provides bikes to those in need both locally and in Mexico. Matt Brown of Handlebars says their mission is continuously growing day-by-day and support for events like La Grind is a big part of the reason why.
Brown says over the past year the Handlebar’s mission has expanded to include taking young children from Mexico to organized races. Totals from La Grind are currently pending.
