Now two names are on the ballot for the Emporia City Commission this election cycle.
Tuesday morning, Incumbent Erren Harter filed his paperwork with the Lyon County Clerk’s Office. Harter was chosen to fill the vacant seat and serve the remainder of former commissioner Rob Gilligan’s term after he stepped down to take a job in Cape Girardeau, Missouri last year.
If re-elected this would be Harter’s first full term on the commission. He tells KVOE News there are several notable issues that still need to be addressed within the local community and he looks forward to being a part of the solution if re-elected.
Harter adds in addition to ongoing issues, there are also a lot of “positive” developments currently ongoing in Emporia and the surrounding area.
Harter is one of three incumbents up for re-election this year along with Becky Smith and Jamie Sauder.
Smith filed her paperwork for re-election last month while Sauder has yet to do so. The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1.
If enough candidates file for election a primary will be held Aug. 1. City Council, mayor and school board positions are part of this election cycle.
