The 2023 National Teachers Hall of Fame Class recently returned from the nation’s capital with a buzz of excitement for their trip to Emporia next month.
The inductees arrived in Washington DC for the first part of the traditional induction activities on Tuesday and departed Saturday. Hall of Fame Director Ralph Draper says it was a great trip and one he believes provided the inductees an opportunity to use their many years of experience to provide helpful insight to national leadership.
He says given the years of experience between the 2023 class, you likely couldn’t ask for a better group of advocates for the profession.
When asked what the mood was amongst the group for the official induction activities in Emporia, Draper says the inductees noted they “can not wait” to arrive.
As part of their itinerary, the inductees had the opportunity to meet with their state’s federal officials, the Department of Education and the National Education Association. While allowing them an opportunity to gain insight from federal officials, the meetings also allowed the inductees an opportunity to offer their insight into improvements that could be made to better the teaching profession according to Draper.
The official induction activities in Emporia will take place June 12-16 and will include the rededication of the National Memorial to Fallen Educators and the traditional induction ceremony. The 2023 class includes Rebecca Hamilton, Erick Hueck, Caryn Long, Kristen Record and Monica Washington.
