After many delays, Project Playscape is gearing up for the grand opening of the new baseball fields in Americus this weekend.
Britney Hinrichs of Project Playscape says there is a lot of buzz about the ballfields opening this weekend.
Hinrichs says much of the excitement for Saturday’s grand opening comes from the length of the project. Both the opening and construction of the new fields were delayed on more than one occasion beginning back in 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Saturday’s festivities will begin with the ribbon cutting at 10 am followed by crafts and activities from 10 am to noon, a free community meal and a vintage baseball game at 1 pm.
The new baseball fields include updated bleachers, lights, a scoreboard, a shelter house, a playground, renovated concessions and bathrooms. The total cost of the project was roughly $600,000 all of which was raised through various fundraising events in the area over the past several years.
