Emporia State University students entered the next chapter of their lives during spring commencement activities this weekend.
Activities culminated what has been a year of changes for the university with several reinvestment endeavors underway or announced as part of ESU’s Framework for Workforce Management. ESU President Ken Hush says much like the ongoing work at the university this weekend signifies a “great change” for the many students receiving their degrees.
He tells KVOE News that not only is graduation a first step for students in their individual careers, but it is also, in many cases, a “monumental step for many families.”
In attendance for this weekend’s activities was Kansas Board of Regents member Blake Benson. He says it is of the utmost importance for Regents to be a part of commencement activities to pay tribute to the many years of hard work put in by students to reach the graduation stage.
Commencement activities concluded an academic year that saw a significant amount of reinvestment both financially and institutionally on the ESU campus. While the university’s various reinvestment efforts have not been met with universal praise, Hush says change is often full of ups and downs and Benson tells KVOE News he is proud to see everyone put aside their various opinions on the subject to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of this year’s graduates.
Commencement activities were broken up into three separate ceremonies with graduate students receiving their degrees Friday evening followed by ceremonies for undergraduate students in Liberal Arts and Sciences Saturday morning and students in business Saturday afternoon.
