A North Carolina man who flew to Kansas for the purpose of meeting with an underage girl for illegal purposes was sentenced to over three years in prison.
Derrick Mayfield, age 20, received 41 months in prison as part of sentencing Tuesday after pleading no contest to one count of aggravated indecent liberties in February. He also has to register as a sex offender and have post-release supervision for the rest of his life.
Mayfield was arrested on Halloween after Wabaunsee County deputies were made aware of a possible child exploitation effort on Halloween. Deputies and Wabaunsee County detectives went to the 400 block of East Flint Hills Drive at Lake Wabaunsee and found Mayfield — who had allegedly contacted the girl online.
Mayfield had been charged with three counts of aggravated indecent liberties and one count of sexual exploitation before reaching an agreement with prosecutors.
