The Kansas City Royals held on for a 5-4 win over the San Diego Padres Tuesday night.
The Royals scored all 5 runs in the 2nd inning. Edward Olivares scored on a Matt Duffy single, M J Melendez scored on a ground out, Matt Duffy scored on a Bobby Witt Jr single and Salvadore Perez had the big hit a 2-run double, driving in Nate Eaton and Bobby Witt Jr.
San Diego made things interesting by scoring 2 runs in both the 5th and 6th innings off of Royals Brady Singer who earned the win.
Aroldis Chapman set a Royals team record by throwing a 103.8 mph fastball. A called 3rd strike to end the 7th inning. That matches the season high in the majors.
Scott Barlow earned the save by working a scoreless 9th.
The Royals and Padres wrap up their 3 game series Wednesday afternoon.
