For the second consecutive game, the Kansas City Royals’ bullpen came up big Wednesday against the San Diego Padres.
The Royals got three scoreless innings from Arodis Chapman, Taylor Clarke and Scott Barlow in a 4-3 victory over the Padres.
MJ Melendez gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with an RBI double.
San Diego tied the game in the fifth innings.
The Royals scored three in the sixth highlighted by a 2-run home run by Vinnie Pasquantino and an RBI double by Maikel Garcia.
The Padres scored twice in the sixth and had the bases loaded in the seventh, but couldn’t take the lead. San Diego left 12 runners on base.
Josh Taylor earned the win in relief with Barlow earning his sixth save of the season.
Garcia went 3-for-4 at the plate.
The Royals are off on Thursday before beginning a 3-game series in Chicago against the White Sox.
The Royals did make several roster moves. Ryan Yarbrough has been transferred to the 60-day injured list with skull fractures. Amir Garrett was placed on the family medical emergency list. Mike Mayers was called up from Omaha and pitched in Wednesday’s game.
