USD 251 North Lyon County’s first incumbent has filed for re-election.
David Goldsmith filed for the USD 251 Position 2 seat which he currently holds. Goldsmith is the first candidate, incumbent or newcomer, to file for the USD 251 Board of Education thus far.
For area elections, USD 253 Emporia incumbents Grant Riles, Leslie Seeley, Art Gutierrez and Jeremy Dorsey have all filed for re-election with no newcomers on the ballot. For USD 252 Southern Lyon County, incumbents Gene Windle (Position 1), Emily Darbyshire (Position 5) and Charles Steffes have all filed as have newcomers Brad Hoelting and Justin Farr both of whom are seeking to fill the Position 4 seat currently occupied by Kevin Flott.
Flott has yet to file for re-election.
For city government, Emporia City Commission incumbents Jamie Sauder, Becky Smith and Erren Harter have all filed for re-election with no newcomers on the ballot for either city commission or USD 253 at this time. Elsewhere, Neosho Rapids City Council member Brian Shank and Americus City Council incumbent Nicolette Nuessen are both on the ballot for their respective positions.
The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1. If enough candidates file for election a primary will be held Aug. 1.
