The Kansas Interfaith Action Committee is encouraging area residents to learn more about its work as part of a special seminar in Emporia on Sunday.
The seminar is free to attend and goes from 4-5:30 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church. A lot of the conversation, according to Executive Director Rabbi Moti Rieber, much of the conversation will involve a new “small cities” project.
Rieber says a number of smaller cities, including Emporia, voted against last year’s abortion amendment and vote for more moderate political candidates, which makes them prime candidates for this new effort. He also believes there is a larger base for a moderate political approach to items like public school funding, Medicaid expansion, medical marijuana policy and LGBTQ matters than what was demonstrated in the 2023 legislative session.
