Over a week after an alleged incident of inappropriate physical contact at the Emporia Middle School’s spring dance, the investigation continues into what exactly happened.
Reports of inappropriate conduct developed rapidly the evening of May 12. Since then, Emporia Police Capt. Lisa Hayes says over 10 detectives and officers have been involved in the resulting investigation, with over 20 interviews logged including at least one with the suspect.
Officers are still asking for firsthand information, meaning adults and students who were at the dance and saw inappropriate behavior, to call the Lyon County Emergency Communications non-emergency number at 620-343-4225 and leave their phone numbers so detectives can call them and continue the investigation. No arrests have been made.
USD 253 Emporia says the district reached agreement with a staff member not to be at the school for the final week of classes but did not make any additional comment.
