With a picture-perfect Saturday in the weather department, the Flatland Cruisers Car Club saw a huge turnout for its annual car show in downtown Emporia.
Among those entering vehicles was Trey Sommers, owner of Sommers Auto Plaza. His entry was a 1926 Ford Model T — so nothing like the vehicles currently on his lot. He purchased the car at a charity auction, and he drove it for the first time Saturday after a lot of prior engine work.
Having a newer classic car — a 1967 Pontiac GTO — was Johnny Redding. He says he’s drawn to the style.
Cars and trucks of all makes, models and ages filled Commercial Street from Eighth to 12th. Speaking of the turnout, nearly 190 vehicles were part of the show, the 29th for the club. It’s believed to be the largest turnout for the show in its history — and definitely the largest since the show moved from Soden’s Grove to downtown Emporia in 2012.
