Visit Emporia’s Community Art Alliance is bringing artists together with businesses and other partners to brighten the community.
Director LeLan Dains used a Hispanic Heritage mural project currently underway at Taqueria El Marmol, 23 East Sixth, is a great example.
The Community Arts Alliance was created last year to enrich, promote and set the stage for current and future public arts projects in Emporia. To that end, Dains wants projects to expand from downtown to across town.
Two projects happened through the alliance last year — the community-painted mural at Earthly Delights and Deon Morrow’s murals at Las Casitas Park. Arts Alliance members include A&A Sign Writing, Emporia Arts Council, Emporia First Friday, Emporia State University, Flint Hills Technical College, Kansas Free for Arts and Trox Gallery and Gifts.
The Art Alliance has set aside almost $21,000 for public arts projects this year. Find the list below.
Dains says Visit Emporia is seeking artists and properties for future projects. To submit either — or both — or to see a map of community art, go to visitemporia.com and find Public Art under the “Things to Do” drop-down tab. Click here for the link.
