Unbound Gravel activities began Wednesday night with the celebration of the Gravel Cycling Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
Unlike the Class of 2022 where seven riders were inducted into the Hall of Fame, four riders were inducted in this year’s class.
Alison Tetrick is one of this year’s inductees. She won her first gravel race in Unbound Gravels’ predecessor in 2017. She also won Gravel Worlds in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Her win in 2019 made her the winningest cyclist in Gravel Worlds’ history.
Tetrick says her success on the gravel put herself to be a Hall of Famer.
Yuri Hauswald is another inductee this year. He’s been a successful rider for more than three decades including winning Unbound Gravels’ predecessor in 2015. He also was second overall in Unbound Gravels’ 350 XL predecessor in 2019. Hauswald says he’s honored to be in this year’s class.
Other inductees in this year’s class include Joel “Big Grin” Dyke who worked with Jim Cummins to create Unbound Gravels’ predecessor in 2006 and Miguel Crawford.
Along with Unbound Gravel activities beginning, the first finisher of the Flint Hills Gravel Ultra Ride arrived Wednesday afternoon.
Ashton Lambie arrived back in Emporia just after 4 p.m. at the David Traylor Zoo. Lambie says he’s excited to finish the 1,050-plus mile race and be the event’s inaugural event. Lambie added he had a great plan of attack.
Lambie says his goal was to return to Emporia before the kickoff of Wednesday’s activities.
Lambie was one of 16 riders who launched on the race last Saturday morning.
