The latest round of 2024 allocation requests was presented to Lyon County Commissioners during a special study meeting Wednesday morning.
Among those presenting Wednesday was Lyon County Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss who is seeking $345,040, a four percent increase from fiscal year 2023. Weiss says the increase reflects a rise in both merit and longevity increases for staff.
Also Wednesday, Flint Hills Technical College President Dr. Caron Daugherty submitted a request of $100,000 which is also up from fiscal 2023. Daugherty says the increased dollars will be put towards planning and rendering for the potential construction of an advanced manufacturing facility.
Daugherty says if constructed the facility would house the college’s various manufacturing programs.
Emporia Public Library Director Pauline Stachinni submitted a request of $200,000, approximately 20 percent more than the previous year’s ask of $169,040. Stacchini noted better staff compensation and frequent increases in technology costs as two of the main reasons for the increase.
One of only two flat requests to come before commissioners came from Emporia Main Street Director Casey Woods who is seeking $40,000. Woods says Main Street’s request is unchanged as the services they provide to the county have also gone unchanged in recent years.
Area libraries also presented increased requests as Elmendaro is asking for $37,000, a $5,000 uptick, with North Lyon County seeking a $4,000 increase of $23,326. Americus Township Library is seeking a flat sum of $44,492.
Also Wednesday commissioners approved a purchase request from Tobey Kelly of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office of $35,036 for a new Chevy Colorado from Longbine Auto Plaza.
Commissioners will have additional allocation requests to consider when they convene for their regular action meeting Thursday morning.
Commissioners will receive requests from Mallory Burton and Bill Leffler of the Lyon County Conservation District, Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope, Lyon County Facilities Director Robbie Weiss, representatives of Newman Regional Health and the Emporia Senior Center.
Two executive sessions are also on the agenda. The meeting will begin at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
