There’s a new addition to downtown Emporia.
The Faces of Emporia Community Portrait Mural project began Thursday at 907 Commercial. The side of the building at the location is American Family Insurance Agent Nick Jacob, who was the presenting venue of June’s First Friday Art Walk.
181 photographs of Emporia community members are a part of the mural that were taken by local photographer Dave Leiker.
Leiker might just be a small part of the project and says this is a long-standing interest in portraits and human studies.
When Leiker was approached to be a part of the project, it didn’t take long for him to put the photos together for the mural.
Alex and Andrea Polzin of A&A Signs pieced together the photos on the side of the building and Ryan Higgins of Coffelt Signs printed the portraits.
