The Emporia Spartan 16s baseball team finished second in the Sam Ellis Classic Sunday at Soden’s Grove.
Emporia won its semifinal over Burlington 9-2 before falling 15-0 in four innings to the Topeka Scrappers in the championship game.

Emporia was held hitless against the Scrappers.
Against Burlington, Emporia jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Max Rusco went 3-for-4 at the plate. Maddox Shivley and Madden Seidl each had two RBIs.
Owen Ruge pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six.
Emporia is now 3-3 on the season. Up next for the Spartans is a doubleheader against the Topeka Monarches at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Soden’s Grove.
