The city of Emporia says there has been a lot of progress as the geometric improvement process at Sixth and Prairie continues.
The city says utility, pavement and traffic marking improvements for the intersection are all done.
There is still work left, including sidewalk, grading and grass seeding. The other major project is the installation of two new traffic signal poles for the north half of the intersection. Because those won’t be delivered now until mid-July, the city has pulled back its construction traffic control until the final project items are done.
Work should finish before fall.
Separately, the city has announced its Street Rehab work zones for the summer and fall:
*Fifth Avenue from Oak to State
*18th from the roundabout to Industrial Road
*Graphic Arts from the roundabout to 22nd
*Potwin from East to Cottonwood
*South Exchange from Logan to Kansas
*South Union from Potwin to Norton
*Wilson from Third to Sixth
The project officially begins with the 18th Avenue work zone. The city says work will move in phases to Graphic Arts, then Fifth and then other streets on the list.
Overall work includes street resurfacing, curb and gutter repairs and installation of handicapped-accessible sidewalk ramps.
