The Great Race has almost launched. And it’s coming to Emporia soon.
Officially called the Hemmings Motor News Great Race, the event is bringing pre-1970-era classic cars to Emporia June 29. Visit Emporia Director LeLan Dains says the event fits right into Emporia’s tourism wheelhouse. As Dains put it, the Great Race is “exactly on brand” for Emporia.
The event begins Saturday in St. Augustine, Florida, and will stop for lunch June 29 outside the Bowyer Community Building. Dains expects cars to be in town any time between 12-4 pm.
The race ends July 2 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The grand champion this year takes home $50,000.
