Emporia firefighters are helping one of their own by providing a meal for the community this weekend.
Firefighter Greg Davis joined KVOE’s Morning Show to preview Sunday’s barbecue fundraiser at Fire Station 2, 1415 Industrial Road. Residents can get a pulled pork sandwich, with baked beans, chips and a cookie for a freewill donation.
The firefighter has asked not to be named.
Firefighters will begin final preparations Friday. Residents are told to use the west entrance off West 15th and drive through the apparatus bay near Industrial Road from 5-7 pm.
Meanwhile, the Olpe Fire Department continues selling tickets for an upcoming gun raffle. Fire Chief Wade Schmidt says this will help to replace “big budget items.”
Three guns are available, a 12-gauge Franchi Affinity Optifade shotgun with a 3.5-inch chamber and 28-inch barrel, a 9-mm Sig P365X pistol with magazines and a sight and a bolt-action Ruger American Predator 308 rifle with an 18-inch threaded barrel.
A suggested donation of $20 per ticket is requested. Only 500 tickets are being sold.
The raffle benefiting the Olpe Fire Department is July 15. For more information, message 620-757-0541.
