The final plat for the Kretsinger subdivision is now awaiting final approval by the Emporia City Commission.
The subdivision was the main focus of the Emporia Planning Commission during its monthly meeting Tuesday evening where commissioners voted to approve the final plat with the final form contingent on the chosen implementation of sanitary sewer services. According to Matthew Kohls of BG Consultants, it is still unclear at this time whether the subdivision will use a gravity sewer line to the wastewater treatment plant or install a lift station in the area.
Either way, Kohls says the final decision will not hinder the progress of the subdivision.
Current plans are to construct more than 50 single-family homes on the 16.65-acre tract located near South Exchange and Soden’s Road. Commissioner Raymond Rodgers noted during the meeting he was originally against the subdivision, however, he would vote in favor of the final plat after taking his “personal feelings” out of the equation.
Ignite Emporia has played a large role in the development process and Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeanine McKenna says she is excited for what is to come.
The final plat will now go before the Emporia City Commission for approval at a later date. McKenna tells KVOE News that the “best case scenario” is that the subdivision could see groundwork begin by late fall or early winter, however, it is more likely construction will begin a the beginning of next year.
In separate business Tuesday, commissioners also continued discussions on potential changes to the city’s zoning code. The Emporia Planning Commission will next convene on Tuesday, July 18 for its monthly meeting inside of the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
