Lyon County commissioners had a budget meeting Wednesday.
Commissioners are starting the process of finalizing the 2024 budget — and they are doing so after most department heads and allocation agency leaders asked for more money next year than they got for this year. County Controller Dan Williams says this will be the toughest budget he’s worked on as a county official, basically because of inflation and increased wage pressures.
Besides the increased requests and a potentially significant increase in the county’s contribution to the Kansas County Association Multiline Pool, or KCAMP, the county will get a better sense of health insurance costs within the next week or two.
Commissioners met with Williams for about an hour Wednesday. Williams will have more budget discussions as part of the county’s June 29 action meeting.
