The Lyon County Courthouse will receive a security upgrade following action by Lyon County Commissioners Thursday morning.
Commissioners approved the purchase of a refurbished X-ray machine for the courthouse lobby from Smiths Detection for a total of $19,800 requested by Lyon County Deputy Jeff Briggs and Facilities Director Robbie Weiss. Briggs tells KVOE News the current machine has been in use for right around 10 years and is nearing its end of life.
He says the X-ray machine is a crucial piece of technology to ensure the safety of everyone inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
Briggs says he and others have received maintenance training on the machine and will be prepared in the event any repairs or updates are needed in the near future. A timeline for when the machine will be delivered is currently pending, however, Briggs says once it is on-site it will take little to no time to install.
In other business, commissioners approved the lining of two culverts on the north end of Americus Road near US Highway 56. The total cost of the project is estimated at $200,000 and according to Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull the project has been needed and was planned for the future, however, the impending shoulder widening project on Americus Road accelerated those plans.
Work on the culverts may begin by next week at the earliest and could lead to one-lane traffic in the work zone, however, final details are still pending.
Subsurface, Inc. will handle the project.
Separately Thursday, commissioners reviewed a proposed update to Lyon County policies presented by HR Director Janice Huffman and approved a cereal malt beverage license for Ignacio Valazquez related to an event next Saturday, July 1.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside of the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
