The Emporia Spartan 16s extended their winning streak to four with a sweep over North Lyon County Friday night at Soden’s Grove.
Emporia won the first game 10-5 in a game that ended due to a time limit. The 16s took game two, 11-1, in five innings.
In game one, Emporia jumped out a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings. North Lyon County tied the game at 2 in the third before the 16s took a 4-2 lead heading to the fourth. North Lyon County answered with two in the fourth before Emporia regained the lead with two in the home half of the inning.
North Lyon County pulled within one at 6-5 in the fifth before Emporia scored four in the inning to put the game out of reach.
Caydrick Crouch was the winning pitcher, going four innings allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out five.
Landon Wohletz went 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple and an RBI.
In game two, North Lyon County took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but after that, it was all Emporia.
The 16s scored two in the first, one in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth for the win.
Owen Ruge and Madden Seidl each had two RBIs.
Luke Marshall was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits and had five strikeouts.
Coach Brady McAfee said the two games were completely different.
Emporia is now 7-8 on the season. They’ll host the Kansas Senators in a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Soden’s Grove.
