The National Teachers Hall of Fame is savoring another successful induction process.
Part of that process involves the host families that either volunteer or accept recommendations to welcome and transport the inductees, and that was the focus of Monday’s Talk of Emporia on KVOE. A’kena LongBenton says Interim Deputy Director Ken Weaver asked her and her husband, Larry, to host Monica Washington of Texarkana, Texas. She says it didn’t take long for her and her husband to find common ground with Washington.
Lori Capes had a similar experience with her inductee, Kristen Record of Stratford, Connecticut.
Weaver says he’s looking for “good people” when he’s looking for host families.
Besides Record and Washington, this year’s induction class included three teachers from Florida — Rebecca Hamilton of Riviera Beach, Erick Hueck of Miami and Caryn Long of Montverde.
Residents interested in serving as host families for next year’s induction process can call the Hall of Fame at 620-341-5660 or email hallfame@emporia.edu.
