Back in mid-December, Angel Alvarado was allegedly involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident in downtown Emporia. He has now been criminally charged in connection with that incident.
Alvarado had his first court appearance earlier this month and now has a preliminary hearing coming July 19 before Judge Doug Jones. Alvarado has single counts of leaving the scene of a fatality accident, criminal desecration, interference with law enforcement, methamphetamine possession and paraphernalia possession on the Lyon County docket.
The alleged incident at Sixth and Constitution on Dec. 15 involved the death of 50-year-old Osvaldo Laffita-Ramirez. Alvarado is accused of leaving the scene. He also allegedly loaded Laffita-Ramirez’s body in his vehicle, drove two blocks from the scene and left as officers began their investigation. Authorities have said Alvarado came forward several days after the alleged incident and cooperated.
Alvarado recently reached a settlement with Daylis Basulto, Laffita-Ramirez’s surviving heir, with Basulto and her daughter each receiving $12,500 as part of a civil case.
