Heat is guaranteed and storms are possible on this Fourth of July.
Heat will build quickly after overnight lows in the low 60s as we top out at 97 with heat index readings close to 100. Although the heat won’t be as oppressive Tuesday as it was for the back half of last week, you’re still advised to drink lots of water, stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible, move any strenuous activities to the morning or evening if that’s allowed and wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
The heat dissipates by late Tuesday night as shower and thunderstorm chances pick up, starting in the evening but especially after midnight. There is currently a marginal risk for severe wind and hail for the overnight hours.
There is also a marginal-to-slight severe weather risk for Wednesday, again for wind and hail and mainly for the morning to early-afternoon hours, followed by a marginal severe weather risk areawide Thursday. More pleasant temperatures are part of the forecast as highs peak in the 80s.
Chances for showers and storms are at least slight into early next week, with the best chance of widespread rainfall on Friday. Temperatures will be in the 80s until climbing into the low 90s Sunday.
