Local golfers hit the links Saturday morning and afternoon to lend their support to the work of Emporia’s Altrusa Club as part of the group’s third annual golf tournament.
This year’s tournament saw a slight dip in attendance with 15 teams taking part, however, the minor decrease did nothing to dampen the spirits of participants or organizers according to Altrusa President Vanda Stephens.
Proceeds from the tournament will go to benefit a variety of causes supported by Altrusa including scholarships, community service projects and SOS Inc. Stephens says all of the causes are very important to the members of Altrusa, however, she says SOS specifically has a very special place in all of their hearts.
Emporia’s Altrusa Club has been serving the local community since 1944 and is currently comprised of 13 members. Stephens encourages anyone who would be interested in joining the club to learn more about them by visiting their Facebook page.
Fundraising totals for Saturday’s golf tournament will be announced at a later time.
