With triple-digit heat expected areawide Wednesday, all area counties are now in a heat advisory.
Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in one advisory between noon and 8 pm. Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate advisory from 12-9 pm.

Incoming sweltering heat has led to the issuance of a heat advisory for portions of the listening area.
The National Weather Service has placed Chase and Greenwood counties into an advisory from noon to 9 pm Wednesday. Current forecasts are calling for highs of 102 with heat index values just below 110.
Even though the extreme heat will be short-lived, be prepared to take extra steps to be safe Wednesday. Drink lots of water, stay in air conditioning or the shade as much as possible, move any strenuous activities to the morning or evening if that’s allowed and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. 7:30 am Tuesday: Steamy, stormy short-term forecast ahead
Another short bust of intense heat is coming to the KVOE listening area.
Tuesday’s forecast has high temperatures in the low 90s, but Wednesday will have highs around 102 and heat index readings between 109-112 areawide. If the forecast holds, this will be the hottest day of the summer for Emporia after highs of 100 degrees June 29-30. Emporia’s peak heat index this summer was 110 degrees June 29.
Showers and thunderstorms are at least possible into early next week. Wednesday evening has a slight chance of overall storms and for severe weather. All hazards are possible, but the main concerns are wind and hail. The best chance for rain appears to be Thursday night through Friday night.
