The West squad had to hold off an East squad rally in the 50th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl Saturday night in Hays.
West defeated East, 21-20.
Emporia High’s Bobby Trujillo recorded five tackles for the east. Trujillo was joined on the East squad by Osage City’s Landon Boss.
Council Grove’s Ethan Burton recovered a fumble for the west.
Emporia State signee Malik O’Atis had three catches for 26 yards and a touchdown. O’Atis’ touchdown got the East on the scoreboard with 1:35 left in the second quarter.
Three other Emporia State signees, Bradley Bond of Goddard, Jacob Carver of Rossville, and Levi Cooley of Basehor-Linwood also played in the game.
The 51st annual Kansas Shrine Bowl will be held on June 29, 2024, at Welch Stadium. Welch Stadium last hosted the Kansas Shrine Bowl in 2016.
