Less than 10 Evergy customers remain offline in Greenwood County after damaging storm activity Friday.
Outages are currently south of Virgil and west of Quincy. Greenwood County had over 5,000 Evergy customers offline as storms rolled through the area Friday afternoon and evening.
Systemwide, there were nearly 190,000 Evergy customers without power at times Friday afternoon and evening. The number as of early Monday is less than 12,000.
Evergy says over 1,900 employees and contractors are working to restore power, as are over 1,000 employees from utilities in neighboring states, including Oklahoma Gas & Energy, Liberty Utilities, Omaha Public Power District, MidAmerica Energy, Alliant, NIPSCO, AEP and Ameren. Evergy says it’s the largest mobilization of crews in the utility’s history.
12:45 pm Sunday: Greenwood County outages from Friday nearly restored
Just in time for another potential round of severe weather Sunday afternoon, Evergy is nearly completed with restoring power to Greenwood County residents hard-hit by storms Friday.
Greenwood County had over 5,000 Evergy customers offline due to storm activity. That number is down to under 50 as of noon Sunday.
Systemwide, there were nearly 190,000 Evergy customers without power at times Friday afternoon and evening. The number as of midday Sunday is under 28,000.
Nearly 500 power poles were damaged or completely destroyed. Evergy says remaining reconnections may need tree removal or other reconstruction work and may mean smaller batches of customers coming online. Potential storms this week, such as the ones in the forecast for Sunday, may also delay the current work or cause more outages to repair.
