Strong storms have given some parts of the KVOE listening area much-needed rainfall while bypassing others.
Storms developed south of Emporia, fizzled and then developed northeast of Emporia before sunrise. Rain totals as of 7 am Thursday:
*Between Hartford and Olpe: 1.50 inches
*6 miles north of Gridley: 0.50 inches
*2 miles north of Lebo: 1.75 inches
*4 miles north of Madison: 0.75 inches
*5 miles southeast of Olpe: 1.50 inches
More showers and storms are possible early Friday.
Area counties were under a marginal risk of severe weather. That risk went unrealized.

Separately, the National Weather Service’s transmitter at Halls Summit now has its signal restored. The signal went offline early Wednesday. The transmitter provides severe weather information for virtually all of Lyon County, save for the far northwest corner, as well as all of Coffey and Osage counties, far east Chase, the north half of Greenwood, far southeast Morris and southeast Wabaunsee counties in the KVOE listening area.
2:40 pm Wednesday: National Weather Service’s Halls Summit transmitter offline with low-end severe risk early Thursday
With another low-end risk of severe weather in the picture for the pre-dawn hours Thursday, the National Weather Service is working to restore service to the transmitter serving most of the KVOE listening area.
The Halls Summit transmitter was reported as offline shortly before 3:30 am. There is currently no word on when service will be restored. The transmitter provides severe weather information for virtually all of Lyon County, save for the far northwest corner, as well as all of Coffey and Osage counties, far east Chase, the north half of Greenwood, far southeast Morris and southeast Wabaunsee counties in the KVOE listening area.
All area counties are in a marginal risk for severe weather during the overnight hours early Thursday. Hail and wind are the main concerns.
